Port Oneida Run/Walk

Join us for a 5K run/walk through the beautiful scenery of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore!  Runners are offered a unique tour of the Port Oneida Rural Historic District which is “one of the most prized historic landscapes in the country”! The course meanders through the pastoral landscape of farmsteads from the late 1800s nestled among the hills, and along the shores of Lake Michigan. The start and finish points are at the Park's historic Olsen farmstead which Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear restored in 2004.

Pre-registration online is $20 or $30 donation day of race. Free for those 18 and under.  You must have a parent's signature on the form if you are under 18.  The first 125 paying registrants will receive a free 20 oz. aluminum waterbottle with carabineer. Model Train Exhibit

Location: Alden Depot Park Museum
The Model Train Exhibit at the Alden Depot Park Museum will be held every Saturday and Sunday in August and September 4, 5 & 6.  The displays are furnished by area individuals and include wooden train and various gauge models.  The museum is located at 10670 Coy Street in Alden.  Free to the public.  Beginning at 1 - 4 pm and on Monday from 1 - 3pm.

2nd Annual "BAREFOOT Triathlon"

Location: Grand Traverse Resort & Spa's Shores Beach Club on East Grand Traverse Bay

The event is named for the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa's official lifestyle magazine BAREFOOT, which reflects the active lifestyle of living and playing in northern Michigan.  There will be two triathlons - Olympic distance and sprint distance.  The Olympic distance triathlon will consist of a 1.5-kilometer swim, followed by a 26-mile bike, and a 6.2 mile run.  The sprint distance triathlon will consist of a 500-meter swim, followed by a 16.4-mile bike, and a 3.1-mile run.  The races will start at 8:00 AM at the Resort's Shores Beach Club on East Grand Traverse Bay and finish at the Resort's white outdoor tent called the Plaza.  For complete race information and registration go to http://www.grandtraverseresort.com/special-events/barefoot-triathlon.cfm.

The 5k starts at Tom's and is a flat and fast run to the entrance of the Interlochen State Park and back.  The 15k continues through the Interlochen State Park and hooks up with a beautiful run along Duck Lake on the State Park Hwy with a run up the big hill on Youker Rd and back.

Registration is now open online www.wklt.com.  Race day registration available starting at 7:30 a.m.  Registration will also take place at packet pick up on September 10, 2010 from 6pm to 10 pm at Wilderness Crossing.

Proceeds benefit the United States Coast Guard Traverse City Air Station Family Fund.

Mike McIntosh Memorial Truck and Car Show

Northwestern Michigan College's Automotive Technology Program will host the fifth annual Mike McIntosh Memorial Classic Car and 4X4 Show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The show is named for the late NMC automotive instructor Mike McIntosh, who retired in 2004 after 34 years of service.  McIntosh organized the first car show in 2004.  Admission is free, and will include a silent auction and food available for purchase.  Proceeds will benefit NMC's Automotive Program.

Vehicle owners are invited to enter their vehicles starting at 9a.m. There is a $10 entry fee per vehicle, and owners are encouraged to register online in advance.  Trophies will be awarded for best of show in each class.  For more information contact Wayne Moody, NMC Automotive Chair, at (231) 995-1316 or wmoody@nmc.edu.
