CARBON
CARBON: The Cosmic Worlds of Charles Lindsay - CARBON is an installation of large scale photographs most of which will cover the entire gallery walls. They evolved, in part, from Lindsay's underwater explorations in UPSTREAM a photo exhibition on fly fishing by Charles Lindsay being shown at the museum simultaneously with CARBON.
CARBON is a creation of fictitious worlds, drawing on Lindsay's interest in the aesthetics of space exploration, microscopic discovery and abstract symbols. He is intrigued by the idea that so much of our expanding scientific knowledge is based on images from beyond our body's normal scope of vision and interested in the challenge and implications of comprehending our relative scale within the universe.
This Dennos Museum Center is open daily 10 AM to 5 PM, Thursdays until 8 PM and Sunday 1-5 PM. Admission is $6.00 adults, $4.00 children and free to museum members. For more information on the Museum and exhibition, go to www.dennosmuseum.org or call (231) 995-1055. The Dennos Museum Center is located at 1701 East Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49686, at the entrance to the campus of Northwestern Michigan College.
Breaking the Mold
Organized in collaboration with Dai Ichi Gallery in New York City, this exhibition features the work of contemporary ceramicists from China and Japan, juxtaposing the themes of Chinese work relationships, Western influences, social issues and human relationships with the Japanese attention to aesthetics of form, texture, color and materials. In each country there is recognition of tradition while breaking with that tradition in technique and subject matter brought on by experimentation and/or changes in society. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am - 5 pm and Sundays 1-5 pm. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children under 12 and free to museum members.
