CalculArt: Mathematics as Art in a 3-D Virtual Environment

The exhibit features a 3-screened, back-projection portable virtual-reality environment called CANVAS.  Created by the Beckman Institute, at the University of Illinios.  It allows visitors to interact and create their own imagery in planned workshops.

Jump to Japan: Discovering Culture Through Popular Art

The Great Lakes Children's Museum brings this exciting new exhibit to the historic Con Foster Museum building at Clinch Park in Traverse City.  Jump to Japan focuses on three art forms-anime (animation), manga (comic books and graphic novels), and traditional woodblock and scroll prints. Pokeman and Hello Kitty are well known icons of Japanese pop culture and are immensely popular with American youth.  This exhibit connects these popular art forms to Japanese Culture in a 1,500 square foot three-part exhibit.

Home Builders Association 2008 Parade of Homes

Location: Grand Traverse Area

Thirty-five beautiful new homes located throughout the greater Grand Traverse area are featured in this years parade.  Advanced tickets are available at the Traverse City Visitor Center for $8.  A Parade Home audio CD tour guide is only $2.  Beginning June 14th $10 tickets will be available at all Parade Homes.

This Pulitzer prize winning play shows parts of two days in the lives of four desperate Chicago real estate agents who are prepared to engage in any number of unethical and/or illegal acts (from lies and flattery to bribery, threats and intimidation to burglary) in order to sell undesirable real estate to unwilling prospective buyers ("leads").  Lie. heat. Steal. All in a day's work.

2nd Annual Suttons Bay Summer Solstice Art Walk

The year around coastal village of Suttons Bay will host its 2nd Annual Summer Solstice Art Walk with 25 galleries/shops partnering with 10 Leelanau Vintner's for a perfect summer evening guaranteed to fill the senses.  Each gallery and shop will host an artist and their work from 5-9pm along with winetasting and horsd'oeuvres ending with the raffle of a $250.00 shopping spree.

What better way to start summer than to slow down, take a stroll, sip a little wine, enjoy the art, visit with neighbors, and rejoice in the life a small village.

The Haig pays tribute to golf legend Walter Hagen; Hickory Sticks Tournament

Annual Event
Time: 12:30pm shotgun start
Location: Elmbrook Golf Course

Known as "The Haig", this tournament entering it's sixth year pays tribute to Walter Hagen, one of golf's finest, who made his first home in Traverse City in 1954.  "The Haig" is a fundraiser for the Grand Traverse Heritage Center.

Participants play a scramble format with traditional "wooden sticks" and dress in period apparel, clubs and outerwear that were common in the early 1900's.  Cost is $125 per person and $500 per foursome. A staple of New York's East Village music scene, singer-songwriter Jessie Harris writes introspective, finely-crafted folk-pop.  Although he has seven albums of his own, Harris is best known for the songs he's written for others, including Grammy-winning "Don't Know Why," performed by Norah Jones.
