The Traverse City area hosts a wide variety of festivals throughout the year. By far our largest annual event is the National Cherry Festival, held in early July in downtown Traverse City. Other major celebrations throughout the year are listed below, with links to the official sites if available.

Historical Walking Tours
The tours depart from the Heritage Center, which is located at 322 Sixth Street in Traverse City. There are two tours per week. Tour dates and times are Tuesdays and Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. Guides are experienced volunteers Carol Hale and Fred Hoisington of Traverse City.
The historical walking tours are approximately two hours in length. Comfortable walking shoes are encouraged. Among the destinations are the historic homes and buildings on Sixth Street, Front Street, Wellington Street, and State Street, among others.
Advance reservation is required for the tour. Tickets are $10 per person. Group reservations are also accepted. For reservations call (231) 995-0313.
Individuals who participate in the tour on Tuesday and Saturdays will also have access to the Museum of History and the new, temporary exhibits.
Arts of the Woodland Indians
This exhibition draws from the museum's collection of art by the Woodland Indians. Not only does this exhibition include excellent examples of quillwork and sweetgrass basketry from both Michigan and Ottawa artists, but also prints by artists of the famed woodland or Anishinabe style of painting, such as Norval Morrisseau and Roy Thomas.

Haunted Hayrides
Haunted Hayride will take place from 6-10 pm every Friday and Saturday in October leaving from Hearth and Vine Cafe across from the Tasting Room. The price is $10/per person for an evening of fright. Pizzas and sandwiches will be made available for purchase in the cafe and of course, wine and mulled cider will also be available.
Grimfell Asylum
Evernight Entertainment will once again be opening "Grimfell Asylum" Haunted Attraction in Traverse City. This Fall The Asylum Doors Open...let the madness and screaming begin!!! This year as last year, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the "Munson Breast Health Center". The Asylum will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October as well as November 1. $7
River of Gold
River of Gold is not only visually stunning. It also gives viewers an invaluable glimpse into a Panamanian society as it was 1,000 years ago.
Jacob's Corn Maze
Jacob's Corn Maze is an "A-Maze-ing" Farm Adventure." Jacob's three separate corn mazes are fun for everyone, young and old alike. Our pumpkin patch features "Super Freak" pumpkins. Admission: Adults $8, kids 3 - 11 yrs $5, under 3 yrs Free.
3rd Annual Haunted House & Hayride
Admission: $7 per person, $5 per person with a group of 10 or more. Proceeds will be donated to a local charity. On Sat. Oct 31st there will be a live band and costume contest.
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Inuit Print
The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College of Traverse City, Michigan will organize an exhibition consisting of 50 prints in observance of this significant 50th Anniversary milestone. Prints will be selected from the Museum's collection and represent each year of the 50 year history of Inuit printmaking beginning with 1959. The museum holds prints from co-operatives including Baker Lake, Cape Dorset, Holman, Pangnirtung, as well as miscellaneous and independent co-operatives. The prints exhibited will also include a Cape Dorset 2009 Annual Print Collection release.
The exhibition will open with the date of the annual release sale of the Cape Dorset 2009 Annual Print Collection. This will also coincide with the annual meeting of the Inuit Art Society consisting of Inuit Art collectors throughout the United States who will meet at the Dennos Museum Center the weekend of the Annual Dorset Collection release.

Shanty Creek Resorts Fall Color Tour
Take the shuttle to the top of Schuss Mountain for cider and donuts and an amazing view of the fall colors. Free.
Presidential Papers and Portraits
This exhibition explores presidential papers from the likes of James Madison, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington as well as portraits of these important American leaders. Presidential Papers and Portraits was organized in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Humanities' Picturing America Program.

Scary Fest '09
A double haunted house: 2 Guided Haunts, The Dark Side (Get Ready to Scream) and Creepy & Crawly (Colorful Thrills & Chills). Price $5/Haunt or both Haunts for $9. Guided groups of 5-7. It's Halloween! Drop by the Boardman River Nature Center anytime between 10 and 4 for some spooky crafts and activities! A donation of $5 is suggested. Registration is not required.
Grand Traverse Conservation District
Zombie 5K Run
Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails is announcing Traverse City's first Zombie 5K Run. The first Zombie walk on record was in 2001 in Sacramento, California. Since then, these events have spread all over the United States and Canada. Participants gather dressed as zombies and walk the streets of their cities and towns. Traverse City's event will be a 5k fun run/walk. All proceeds from this event will benefit TART Trails. There will be prizes for winners and for best costume, with music and post run refreshments for all.
Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done online at tczombierun.com. The cost is $25 for pre-registered participants and $30 for day of event registrants.
Packet pick up and late registration will run from 7-8:45 am at Right Brain Brewery in the Warehouse District. The race starts at 9 am.
THE COURSE: The race starts in the warehouse district and winds through the Central neighborhood to Oryana on 10th Street where it connects with the Boardman Lake Trail. After crossing the newly constructed bridge and TART/Boardman Lake Trail connector it follows the TART Trail down Franklin Street to the waterfront and returns to the warehouse district via Cass and Front Streets before turning onto Hall. Automobiles may experience a slight delay at road crossings during the race. Drivers are encouraged to be patient and courteous to volunteers and participants at road intersections.

Costume clad kids will be admitted free if dressed in a costume, adult admission is required. Children will also receive a non-candy Halloween treat.
